Stichting Projecthulp Haïti

Dit project zal hoog in de bergen worden gerealiseerd.
Het regenwater dat in de bergen valt zakt vrij snel de grond in.
Beneden in een dal is het mogelijk water te halen.
Veel mensen moeten een paar uur lopen om 20 liter water te verkrijgen.
Ze moeten dan de steile helling af naar de bron en klimmen dan dezelfde helling weer op met zo’n 20 liter water op hun hoofd.

In samenwerking met de fam. Murphy, die in de bergen een weeshuisje heeft en de bevolking leert terrasbouw voor de landbouw toe te passen, zal het project verder worden uitgewerkt.
Het is de bedoeling pompen te slaan met een lengte van 100 meter.
Deze pompen krijgen een centrale functie binnen de diverse dorpjes.
Het is dan een verzamelpunt waar de dorpsbewoners bij elkaar kunnen komen.
Naast het water halen worden dan ook de nieuwtjes uitgewisseld.
Eind 1999 is een enthousiaste groep in Leeuwarden gestart om de kosten van dit project bijeen te brengen.

Here are some pictures for your files from the latest well project. The solar pump is working well and is provding water for many people. As you can see in the pictures, it is getting a lot of use.

We cannot thank you and those who gave enough for the blessing of water.
The people in the community wrote use a letter of thanks and one line said, "Without water there is no life, thank you for providing water so we can live." 29 people signed the note of thanks.

Thank you for the funding that made this possible. We really do appreciate it and so does those who use the water from the pump everyday!

We are well and are busy building the new orphanage facilities.

God bless you and those who gave for your kindness and generosity.

Hier nog even een update van mijn kant.
Ik ben onlangs bij de Murphys langs geweest, en heb toen de pomp bezocht. Een mooie constructie die nu dus helemaal op zonne-energie werkt en hopelijk daardoor minder onderhoud vraagt (ze kunnen nu de pomp-handel tenminste niet meer afbreken!). Het water wordt in een opvangkelder gepompt en vandaar kan dan de hele dag door water getapt worden.

Onderstaande mail kwam 4 december 2001 uit Haïti

Dear Piet,

How are yu doing? Sorry it has been such a long wait to hear from us about the solar system. It took a while to get all of the parts here and then we waited until after camp to get started on the assembly. Any how, it is now installed, secured and working really well!!!

I wanted to express our thanks and the appreciation of the community. They are very excited about it!! Today, it has been pumping for about three days and the cistern is about full. They will begin using the water tomorrow.

The great news is that we were able to find a cheaper system on the web! We did everything for about $6,000.00 and this included shipping and everything. We are so pleased!

We wanted to know if your organization would be interested in doing two more systems? Since this one went so very well we are looking to do the other two wells the same way. These systems are much easier to repair and maintain and they allow the people to spend less time at the water well. Since the system was cheape! r we are probably looking at about $12,000.00 for the both of them.

Please let us know if you all are interested in helping. The left over funds from this first one will be used towards the others and the other costs that occur to help the community construct the cisterns needed. Our other projects are doing fine and we have begun building the new home for the kids.
